Reasons to Replace Your Siding During the Fall Season
TONY • October 5, 2021

Siding can be replaced during most other times of the year. However, the fall season is one of the best times to do so. Here’s why.

Hot Weather Can Soften Vinyl Siding

Vinyl is one of the most popular siding options, mainly due to its low maintenance requirements and relatively affordable cost. It can withstand most weather conditions, but extreme heat during the summer season can make it softer. This means it can extend installation time as installers will need to take extra care to make siding boards stay level during installation – careless handling can result in warping, which can lead to wasted boards. The temperatures during the fall season, on the other hand, is milder and can facilitate shorter installation times with less waste.

Extreme Cold Can Make Siding Brittle

There are few things that can be done to your home during the winter season. Emergency repairs for a leaking roof is one of them; siding installation is not. Building and remodeling contractors are generally unavailable during the winter season because the conditions are not favorable for projects that require exposing the framing to outdoor conditions. Many types of siding material tend to become brittle when exposed to cold weather, which can also result in wasted siding. Conditions are more favorable during the fall season, which will give you a wider selection of siding that can be installed on your home.

High Humidity Carries Risks

Humidity levels are typically high during spring and summer, which increases the risk of moisture damage to wood shakes and similar siding materials. It also increases the risk of moisture getting trapped between the siding and the substrate in the walls that could lead to mold growth. Outdoor humidity is usually more ideal during the fall season as the levels shift from high to low as the seasons become cooler.
